Charity Commission pilots whistleblower advice line

The Charity Commission has launched a pilot advice line for charity whistleblowers to help people report concerns about their charity, particularly where the charity’s trustees and senior management team were failing to address them. It said it wished to improve its support for potential whistleblowers through an advice line that will offer confidential advice about how to go about whistleblowing, responding to each concern raised and acting as a direct point of contact on taking matters forward.

The Commission also believes this will help it focus attention on the most serious risks, and use the information about less serious risks to build up a better informed picture of the threats to individual or groups of charities.

The project will be operated independently by the whistleblowing charity Protect, and is supported by funding from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport. The service will operate initially for six months.
