BEIS to review whistleblowing protections in light of pandemic experience

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) is to  review whistleblowing protections following the publication of data by whistleblowing advice service Protect. This revealed that one in four COVID-19 whistle blowers who contacted Protect’s advice line were dismissed between September 2020 and March 2021, whilst in the period April and December 2020, nearly two thousand three hundred employment tribunal claims relating to whistleblowing detriment were also made.

BEIS said it is considering the scope and timing of the review, making it part of the plan to introduce a single body to enforce workers’ rights.
