One third of employers see increase in grievances over the past two years

Research by XpertHR has found a significant increase in grievances amongst the 158 organisations it surveyed in Autumn 2022.

The top reasons for employee grievances were bullying or harassment (67%), relationships with managers (54%) and relationships with colleagues (49%). 37% of respondents reported pay and grading as the main cause of grievances.

40% of respondents said managers were ineffective at resolving issues with employees prior to the concerns being escalated as a formal grievance or disciplinary matter, taking the view that managers did not want to be seen as the “bad guy”, or that a lack of training meant managers were ill-equipped to deal with complaints.
