Research into bullying in the Charity sector gets underway

The Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations (ACEVO) is partnering the Centre for Mental Health to carry out research about bullying in the charity sector.

The project, Leading safe cultures: eliminating workplace bullying in charity leadership will, over a five year time span. examine why bullying occurs, what its effect is on individuals, and why it goes unchecked.

The focus will be on the role of leadership and workplace culture.

The Department for Digital Culture Media and Sport is supporting the project as part of a wider £2m programme following concerns about safeguarding in the sector.

As part of the research, the two organisations are running a survey and conducting interviews to obtain employees’ experiences and seeking victims’ views on the causes of the bullying they have suffered. The findings will be published in May.
